Hundreds of hot air balloons in mass ascension at dawn over Albuquerque with the Sandias behind

Starlink Rental for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

A million people in one park for two weeks. The towers do not enjoy it.

The Fiesta concentrates an enormous crowd into Balloon Fiesta Park for a fortnight each October, and cellular capacity there behaves the way it does at any large festival: fine at 5am, unusable at mass ascension.

Crews, chase teams, vendors, and media all hit the same wall at the same moment, which is why a private link is worth having.

Sky and obstruction

What the dish will actually see here

Very good. The park is a large open field in a wide desert valley, so the dish has clean sky in every direction. The practical caution is unique to this event: keep the dish and its cabling clear of balloon crews, chase vehicles, and envelope layout areas, a tripod in a launch lane is a hazard, not a setup.

Once you are set up, the captive portal on your router draws the real obstruction map from your own dish, so you can see exactly which part of the sky is blocked and move before it costs you a call.

How you get it

Shipped to you. The Starlink Mini kit ships anywhere in the country ahead of your dates. The portable power station and solar panel are local-delivery items in Colorado and cannot be shipped, so plan your own power for this trip.

Frequently asked questions

Is October weather a problem?
Rarely for the hardware. High desert October is cold at dawn and mild by afternoon, well inside the equipment's operating range.
