Zion pushes close to five million visits a year into a canyon that is, in places, less than half a mile wide. Springdale has service. The moment you are up-canyon, in Watchman or South Campground, or anywhere along the Scenic Drive, it degrades fast.
Zion is also the park where we most often tell people the truth about geometry before they book: this is the hardest mainstream park to get a clean satellite view in, and it is entirely about where you put the dish.
Sky and obstruction
What the dish will actually see here
This is the canyon-wall case. Standing on the floor of Zion Canyon, the Navajo sandstone walls rise a thousand feet or more on both sides and cut off a huge share of the sky, leaving you a strip running roughly north-south along the canyon axis. It can absolutely work, but you want the widest, most open spot you can get, the middle of a clearing rather than the base of a wall, and you should expect a visible blocked band on the obstruction map. Up on the plateau, or out at Kolob Terrace, the sky opens back up and it is easy.

- Will it work in Zion Canyon itself?
- Usually, if you set up in an open spot on the canyon floor rather than tight against a wall. Expect some obstruction; the canyon geometry is genuinely restrictive.
