Starlink Rental for Yellowstone
Two million acres, five cell towers, and one thing that works.
Yellowstone draws about 4.8 million visits a year, and nearly all of the coverage sits in a handful of developed villages: Mammoth, Canyon, Grant, Old Faithful. Step ten minutes past any of them and the bars are gone. Lamar Valley, the Bechler corner, most of the Grand Loop between basins: nothing.
That matters more than a missed email. Yellowstone is where plans change on you, a road closes for bison, a thermal basin shuts, weather turns at 8,000 feet, and the park's own alerts live online. A dish at camp is how you find out before you drive two hours the wrong way.
Book the dates you are in the park and we ship the kit to you beforehand, or to your first stop on the way.
Sky and obstruction
What the dish will actually see here
Yellowstone splits into two very different skies. The geyser basins, Hayden and Lamar valleys, and the lake shores are wide open, close to a best case, park the dish anywhere with a view north. The lodgepole pine stands that cover most of the plateau are the opposite: mature lodgepole grows tall, straight, and dense, and a dish tucked into a wooded loop site will show a solid band of obstruction. In the trees, walk to the clearing or the pullout and put the dish on the tripod.
Once you are set up, the captive portal on your router draws the real obstruction map from your own dish, so you can see exactly which part of the sky is blocked and move before it costs you a call.
How you get it
Shipped to you. The Starlink Mini kit ships anywhere in the country ahead of your dates. The portable power station and solar panel are local-delivery items in Colorado and cannot be shipped, so plan your own power for this trip.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there cell service in Yellowstone?
- Only in and immediately around the developed villages, and it is congested in summer. Most campgrounds, valleys, and backcountry trailheads have none.
- Can I use it at a park campground?
- Yes. The Mini runs off a portable battery and sets up in minutes. Be considerate of neighbors and follow the campground's generator and quiet-hours rules for whatever you power it with.
