Starlink Rental for Burning Man
The best sky on this list, and the worst environment.
Black Rock City puts tens of thousands of people on a dry lakebed with no permanent infrastructure. Whatever cell capacity gets trucked in is saturated immediately, which is why satellite has become standard for camps that need to coordinate.
We rent by the week, which fits the build-and-strike shape of the event, and we ship well ahead so the kit is in your hands before you stage.
Sky and obstruction
What the dish will actually see here
The best case in this entire catalog. The playa is a dead-flat lakebed with no trees, no terrain, and 360 degrees of unbroken horizon, so the dish sees essentially the whole sky from anywhere in the city. Your problems here are not geometric. They are alkali dust, which gets into everything, heat, and power, so plan on shade, a cover when it is not in use, and a battery you have actually sized for the load.
Once you are set up, the captive portal on your router draws the real obstruction map from your own dish, so you can see exactly which part of the sky is blocked and move before it costs you a call.
How you get it
Shipped to you. The Starlink Mini kit ships anywhere in the country ahead of your dates. The portable power station and solar panel are local-delivery items in Colorado and cannot be shipped, so plan your own power for this trip.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the dust affect the equipment?
- Playa dust is fine and alkaline and it will find every opening. Keep the dish and power supply covered when not in use, and expect to clean everything thoroughly on return. Normal playa wear is fine; damage beyond that is covered by our standard terms.
- What about power?
- You need your own. The Mini is efficient enough to run off a modest battery and solar setup, but our power station and solar panel are local-delivery only in Colorado and cannot ship to Nevada.
