Joshua trees and stacked granite boulders silhouetted at golden hour in Joshua Tree

Starlink Rental for Joshua Tree

Close to the city, and still nowhere near a signal.

Joshua Tree is deceptive: it is two hours from Los Angeles and still has almost no service once you are inside the park. Hidden Valley, Jumbo Rocks, and the Pinto Basin road are all effectively dark.

It is one of the most common working-remote-from-the-desert trips there is, and one where people are consistently surprised by how fast the bars vanish.

Sky and obstruction

What the dish will actually see here

Very good, with a local quirk. The desert itself is open and low, so sky access is generally excellent. The quirk is the rock: campsites here are famously tucked between enormous monzogranite boulder piles, and a site wedged in a rock alcove can lose a surprising amount of horizon. Step out of the rocks into the flat and it clears immediately.

The sign-in page shows what the dish sees in real time, so you can reposition it before a meeting or call.

How you get it

Shipped to you. Kits ship nationwide ahead of your dates. Portable power stations and solar panels are local delivery only in Colorado.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it at Hidden Valley or Jumbo Rocks?
Yes, though those sites sit among big boulder formations. Place the dish where it has open sky rather than in a rock pocket.
