Hammertown appears on a dry lake for two weeks, with nothing to plug into.
Johnson Valley has no infrastructure. Hammertown is built from nothing on the lakebed, and race teams run their entire operation, timing, telemetry, media, logistics, out of a pit with whatever they hauled in.
Teams and media are the core renters here, and the requirement is uptime rather than speed.
Sky and obstruction
What the dish will actually see here
Ideal, essentially the same as the playa: a flat dry lakebed with no vegetation and unbroken horizon. Set up anywhere and the dish sees the whole sky. What will actually cause you trouble is dust and vibration, this is one of the harshest dust environments in motorsport, so keep the terminal covered between sessions and mount it where it is not taking constant impact.
Once you are set up, the captive portal on your router draws the real obstruction map from your own dish, so you can see exactly which part of the sky is blocked and move before it costs you a call.
How you get it
Shipped to you. The Starlink Mini kit ships anywhere in the country ahead of your dates. The portable power station and solar panel are local-delivery items in Colorado and cannot be shipped, so plan your own power for this trip.
