A deep blue Sierra Nevada alpine lake at golden hour, clear water over pale granite boulders

Starlink Rental in Reno

The last real town before the playa.

Reno is the staging city for Black Rock City and for the Great Basin generally, which is one of the emptiest and least-served landscapes in the country. Tahoe backcountry and the eastern Sierra are the other half of the demand.

Volume here is seasonal and it spikes hard. If you are staging for a late-summer event, book early rather than the week before.

Sky and obstruction

What the dish will actually see here

Great Basin terrain is superb: sagebrush flats, playa, and long open horizons with almost nothing to block a dish. The playa itself is the single best case we have. The exception is Tahoe and the eastern Sierra, where dense conifer and steep granite drainages behave like any mountain forest and you will want a clearing or a shoreline.

Once you are set up, the captive portal on your router draws the real obstruction map from your own dish, so you can see exactly which part of the sky is blocked and move before it costs you a call.

How you get it

Shipped to you. The Starlink Mini kit ships anywhere in the country ahead of your dates. The portable power station and solar panel are local-delivery items in Colorado and cannot be shipped, so plan your own power for this trip.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get it in time for a late-summer event?
If you book early. That week is our busiest of the year and inventory does run out.
