High desert, huge sky, and a network that buckles every October.
Albuquerque has two distinct rental seasons: October, when the Balloon Fiesta puts close to a million people through one park and the local network gives up, and the rest of the year for high desert camping and film production.
New Mexico's public land is vast and largely unserved, so campers, hunters, and field crews rely on satellite year round.
Sky and obstruction
High desert at altitude, which is excellent. Juniper and pinyon are short and scattered rather than a canopy, the terrain is broad, and the sky is enormous. You lose view only in the steeper canyons and on the forested flanks of the Sandias and the Jemez, where ponderosa gets tall enough to matter.
