The location scout picked somewhere with no service. Again.
Los Angeles location production runs on remote connectivity: units need to move dailies, run video village, and coordinate from spots chosen specifically because nothing is there.
The second draw is desert geography. Joshua Tree, Death Valley, the Eastern Sierra, and the Mojave are all a half-day drive, and all of them are dark.
Sky and obstruction
Where LA rentals actually get used is superb terrain: Mojave and Colorado desert, low scrub, big horizons. The recurring problem is not the landscape, it is base camp. A dish placed between production trailers, next to a condor, or under a silk is obstructed by your own setup. Treat its position as part of the layout, put it at the edge of camp on the tripod with a clear view, and you will not think about it again.
The sign-in page shows what the dish sees in real time, so you can reposition it before a meeting or call.
