Highway 41 to Yosemite, Highway 180 into Kings Canyon and the sequoias.
Fresno is the Central Valley city those parks stage from. Highway 41 runs north to Yosemite. Highway 180 runs east to Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Shaver Lake and the Sierra National Forest sit on the roads between.
Coverage on the valley floor is ordinary city service. It falls off in the foothills and is gone in the park backcountry. Yosemite Valley and the Kings Canyon floor are also where walls and big trees take the sky.
Sky and obstruction
Open granite above treeline has a wide Sierra sky. Most Fresno trips camp lower than that. Yosemite Valley and the floor of Kings Canyon have vertical walls plus tall timber, including giant sequoia and sugar pine in the groves. A meadow edge, or a shoreline opening at Shaver Lake, sees sky. A site under the sequoias, or against a valley wall, has little. If the camp is in the grove, move the dish to the clearing at the edge of the trees.
The sign-in page shows what the dish sees in real time, so you can reposition it before a meeting or call.
